Welcome to the FIFTH week of Season 9 - Building YOU to BUILD your BUSINESS with Ravin Papiah

This week we are going to talk about PURPOSE! Having a purpose make you feel fulfilled when you accomplish same. Simon Sinek says in his book “Find Your Why’: Fulfillment is a right and not a privilege. Every single one of us is entitled to feel fulfilled by the work we do, to wake up feeling inspired to go to work, to feel safe when we’re there and to return home with a sense that we contributed to something larger than ourselves. Fulfillment is not a lottery. It is not a feeling reserved for a lucky few who get to say, “I love what I do!”

E17 HOW NETWORK MARKETERS IDENTIFY THEIR PURPOSE

Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.

Questions relating to purpose are among the deepest and most profound we can ask. Answers to such questions are often elusive, but are easier to find when we ask the question in the most helpful way. Take a moment to consider this question: “What is the meaning of life?” You might be thinking, “What do you mean by that?” It’s a fairly nebulous question, and one that could yield all kinds of answers, or maybe none at all.

“What is the meaning of life?” with this one: “What should I do to live a fulfilling and meaningful life?” Both questions relate to purpose, though as explained by psychologist Jonathan Haidt, the first is asking about the purpose of life (“Why are we here?”) while the second deals with purpose within life (“How ought I to live?”).
Researchers in the area of positive psychology, for example, have begun to elucidate the key components of human flourishing, including how a stronger sense of life purpose contributes to well-being. For these reasons,

our focus will be on purpose within life: an individual’s personal aspirations for how to live so as to experience joy and fulfillment. 

Finding purpose in life is one of those things that most people want. Whether we know it or not. As nice as it sounds, it can seem challenging to attain.

Network Marketers are, to start with, also a HUMAN BEING. Every human being wants to feel fulfilled and that can only happen if a particular purpose has been realized. And the BIGGEST reason people come to Network Marketing is to solve financial issues. And most of these financial issues are directly related to family. Network Marketers who STAY and PURSUE the dream by doing the hard work, has the BIGGER PURPOSE – They TRULY want to change the lives of their family members. They have a BURNING DESIRE to provide for the best for the people they love and cherish, so they stay and they do the HARD work of making it easy over time – that’s when people call them LUCKY!

Purpose is your personally-derived, authentic set of life aims that guides your behavior, pulls you into the future, and gives meaning to life.     

(Rainey, 2014) shares that purpose, essentially can be defined as one or more consistent and central life aims that: 1) emerge from one’s unique strengths and interests, 2) generate goals for the future that guide current actions, 3) are personally meaningful while facilitating one’s connection to someone or something outside the self, and 4) are deliberately chosen and pursued.

You can now see why Network Marketers who STAY and go through the learning process of understanding the job of network marketing AND who go through the process of failing forward (many times) so that they understand better WHAT works in Network marketing, become SUPERSATARS of the industry, and of their organisations. THEY HAVE A PURPOSE! WHAT YOURS?

E18 HOW Network Marketers UNDERSTAND THEIR HIDDEN POTENTIAL

In order to find your life purpose, you need to do some work and for that you need to have or develop a GROWTH MINDSET! This growth mindset will help you to discover your hidden potential, which make it easier for you to find or discover your purpose. When you are aware of your purpose and your hidden potential, MAGIC unfolds.

How do you discover your hidden potential?

Carol Dweck, in her book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, talk about the four steps to uncover your hidden potential. Let’s talk about this:

1. RECOGNIZE THE VOICE OF YOUR FIXED MINDSET

I don’t have what it takes.
If I try, I’ll fail. So it’s better not to try at all.

That’s your fixed mindset speaking! It pushes you towards your comfort zone. If you don’t try to make a change, you feel like you’re not losing anything. You simply stay fixed in your tiny box of compromise.
The first step towards healing is recognizing that little voice in your head that’s setting you back. 
2. SEE YOUR OPTIONS

Remember: you’re the only one who’s responsible for your actions, and you always have a choice. Every situation in life comes with options.
When you criticize yourself, you’re making a choice. When you decide to stay passive, you’re making a choice.

You tend to avoid seeing the other options you have, but they do exist. You can push your body and mind beyond the limits you think you have.

Recognize the options! When you’re faced with a challenge, you can make a choice to listen to that fixed mindset, or you can accept that challenge and grow with the experience. Even if you encounter a setback, you’ll still have a choice: you may interpret it as a sign of failure, or you may see it as a trigger to do something differently.

3. TALK BACK TO THE FIXED MINDSET

F: I’m not sure I can do this.
G: If I try, I’m sure I’ll make progress. Maybe I won’t do it impeccably, but at least I’ll overcome some limitations.
F: But what if you fail?
G: And what if I don’t?

That’s a nice conversation  to have in your own head. When the fixed mindset starts speaking, Dweck recommends you to talk back with the voice of a growth mindset.  

4. JUST DO IT!

No; this is not a Nike commercial. But that slogan is definitely a great description of the next step: you just need to do what the growth mindset tells you to.

E19 HOW NETWORK MARKETERS TURN POTENTIAL INTO POWER

Now that you have adopted the GROWTH MINDSET and that you have uncovered your hidden potential, it is time to turn that potential INTO POWER and live your purpose!

But how?

Karen Gately in his article in the Success Magazine shares with us 4 Ways to Turn Your Potential Into Success! Let’s see:

Human potential is encapsulated in both our talents and energy—our knowledge, skills, experience and reserve all play a role. But our potential is only realized when we choose to act in ways that drive our success. No matter how capable we are, unless we choose to apply our potential, we aren’t likely to reach the heights we were born to scale.

How we choose to think, feel and act in every moment of every day determines the outcomes we are able to create. Although a single choice or action might seem inconsequential, the cumulative effects can derail us from

our path to success.   For many people, choosing to act is easier said than done. Limiting beliefs and fears often hold us back from acting when we need to. It’s common for dreams to go unrealised because people fail to step forward.

When has failing to act constrained your potential? Take control of your destiny with these four tips.

1. Take ownership.
Success begins with taking ownership for the choices you make and the outcomes you achieve. Choose to step into the driver’s seat of your life and deliberately create what you want. Life can be challenging, but the choices you make about how you respond ultimately define the experience you live. Choose not to be a victim; choose to be in charge of your own destiny.

2. Know yourself.
Understanding not only your capabilities but also how you typically operate is essential to your ability to leverage your potential. Begin by understanding your values, beliefs and passions. Observe your thoughts and emotions. Contemplate how you typically think and feel in certain circumstances. Consider the influence this has on the way you choose to act.

Reflect on the reasons you don’t act. Do you allow unfounded assumptions to deter you from fully exploring opportunities? Do you hesitate to act when fears of the unknown, failure or loss creep in? Do you struggle to find the confidence  to approach people and ask them for what you need?
  
3. Energize your spirit.
How you choose to behave is in part a reflection of the strength of your spirit. Visualize your spirit as a balloon filled with positive energy.  The strength of this energy reserve has a profound impact on how you think, feel and behave. When energized, you are more likely to feel and be engaged, determined, driven and courageous. Conversely, when drained of positive energy, you are more likely to make choices that undermine success.

The strength of your spirit is impacted by four key factors: the health of your mind, body, relationships and environment. Understand how each energizes or drains you of energy. Do you tolerate relationships that drain you? Do you spend time with people who are energising to be around? Are you providing 
your body with the fuel it needs to meet the demands you place on it? What role does your mind play? To what extent do the environments in which you live, work or socialize uplift you or drain you?

4. Choose to believe.

The beliefs you hold about yourself, your circumstances, the future and your ability to influence that future unquestionably impact the outcomes you achieve. Those most likely to succeed are people who believe they can. As Oprah Winfrey tells us, “You become what you believe.”

Recognize when a lack of belief is holding you back from making good choices. Challenge these beliefs with evidence of why you should think and feel differently. Give yourself credit for what you have already achieved and respect the strengths you possess. Accept that we all have weaknesses but we also have strengths to offer.

If you cultivate a GROWTH MINDSET, it helps you to SEE what YOU can do, your INNER POTENTIAL, your passion, your desires, your POWER!

And all these helps you in identifying your PURPOSE, your BIG reason you were born. Sometimes or I should say MOST of the time, you start with a purpose close to your heart like that of taking great care of your family, and then when you do that, you discover along the way the BIGGER purpose for which you were born.

It is the same with Network Marketing. You join because you want to earn a lot of money so you can take great care of your family, then you discover along the way, your BIGGER purpose, that of HELPING other people become entrepreneurs so they can also live up to their potential and discover THEIR life purpose, and the chain continues….a chain that you have started…because someone else had started it…and many will start BECAUSE you have started it!

E20 – Belief + Desire + Faith + Potential LEADS TO SUSTAINABLE SUCCESS
FAITH + BELIEF + ACTION + PERSISTENCE + PATIENCE = MASSIVE SUCCESS!

I believe, I strongly believe, that you can build a very successful Network Marketing business if you have a burning DESIRE and a very laudable purpose of becoming your better version, so that you can achieve all your goals, provide a beautiful life to your family and fulfill the purpose for which you were born.

Julien and Kiersten Saunders in their article ‘Upskilling to Earn More Money’ state that Upskilling, or the process of taking your skills to the next level at work, can be a great way to increase your value at your current company and help you negotiate a higher salary when you start looking for your next employment adventure. Even if your company isn’t willing to invest in

continuing your education, using the concept of upskilling to increase your skills away from work may pay dividends in the future at a new company. Filling in any gaps you may be missing or working on areas that need improvement can be a great way to help you advance your career. 

Plan to succeed.
‘Preparation is the key to success’ is a cliche, but it’s true for most things in life, especially at work. We talk a lot about being mentally prepared for the things that may or may not happen in our financial lives because so often, managing your money is about managing your mind first. Without a plan in place, we follow the path of least resistance, and that might feel good in the short term, but rarely benefits us in the long run. 

The same is true at work. Having already thought through the potential ups and downs of accepting a new role in your company helps you respond to new opportunities or promotion interview questions without hesitation and with more nuance and precision than if you were just winging it. Use these tips to help you mentally prepare for the next opportunity that comes your way. 

Visualize.
There’s a reason pro athletes and corporate CEOs use visualization to help them succeed  when the stakes are high. Know in your head where you’re going and what you want the future to look like so that you can jump on opportunities when they appear. If you haven’t taken the time to think through what you want for your future, you may see options only after they have passed you by.

Spend some time with a blank piece of paper or a journal and think about what you want your work life to look like in five or 10 years. From there, work

backward to determine the steps you need to take to achieve your goals, all the way to the smallest step you can take today. Use this plan as a road map to help you develop into the person you would want to hire.

Develop your soft skills.
Review the job description of your dream job and list the qualifications you think the ideal candidate would have. Focus on the technical job requirements, like needed certifications or hard skills, but also consider the softer skills not explicitly listed. 

Soft skills, such as listening, speaking, developing good working relationships with colleagues, and a deep understanding of the company’s culture, usually go unsaid but become more important as you work your way up the ladder. Start working on the skills you’ll need for that big promotion now so that they are ingrained as you start to move up the corporate ladder. 

List your accomplishments.
Keep an ongoing list of your accomplishments to help boost your confidence when you advocate for yourself or to act as a reminder when you doubt yourself. Logging your achievements and comparing them to the dream job qualifications you created above also lets you see where some of your skills might need further development. 

Practice formally talking about the positive things you have done for your company with a coworker or your partner before meetings with your manager so you don’t get tongue tied. The more you get comfortable talking about your work successes, the easier it will be to speak fluidly in a meeting or interview. 

Ask for feedback.
Feedback is uncomfortable, but the only way to get good at hearing criticism or praise is to keep requesting it from your manager, coworkers, or the people you manage and evaluate it for accuracy. Not all feedback is helpful  so practice both the actual asking for observations and considering its validity. Pull out the valuable pieces for future implementation and apply them to your plan for future growth.

When feedback is offered, listen closely and actively, take notes if necessary, and if you disagree with their assessment, don’t try to defend yourself in the moment. At the end of the meeting, thank the person for their time and then reflect on what they said. You may disagree with their perception of the situation, but the person’s responses can offer insight into places you need to improve or ways to get ahead. 

Focus on what you can control.
Ultimately, you don’t have much control over whom your company (employer) chooses to advance in a 9 to 5 job, but by focusing on your mental preparation before the big promotion arrives, you are not only making yourself a strong candidate, but also ensuring you’re ready to face whatever challenge comes next. Take your time working through these tips and use them as a road map to help you succeed. 

In Network marketing, it IS different – Not your company, but YOU choose when you want to get your NEXT promotion, and by FOCUSING on that, you will surely make it happen!
