Episode 2 - Intentional Focus powerfully impacts your Workday

How do you, the business owner, ensure your workers are productive and efficient especially in today’s ever-changing world? Where you place your focus in leading your people will have positive outcomes in their performance.

One thing that takes away from the productivity of many organizations and individuals is that a lot of time and resource is wasted. Once those things are lost, they can never be recovered. Time wasters at work include engaging in personal emails.

Unnecessary phone conversations and making non-work related stops (if you work on the road). These activities keep us from being productive and accomplishing what we could. Resources lost could be tangible items like wasted parts and supplies or intangibles like not taking an opportunity to learn and improve your skills.

As a productive person, your goal is to increase your value by learning whenever you can, using resources wisely, developing new ideas and staying on task. Productivity is the way towards progress, growth and a positive future.

Focus and productivity strategies, along with communication, problem solving, and collaboration skills, have been shown to be ultimately more important in determining success among similarly trained colleagues than academic knowledge or technical skills. Without these crucial skills, we are unable to fully leverage our education and our organization’s resources, resulting in reduced productivity, increased costs, reduced innovation, poor execution, and increased conflict and stress-related issues. This intensive group program accelerates learning and adoption of essential skills and behaviours which increase focus, productivity, ability to handle stress, engagement, collaboration, resiliency, and adaptability.

Episode 3 – Self-development. The secret to fulfilling your Job Demands

Your employees are hired to perform a list of tasks as outlined in their Position Descriptions. Your job is to ensure they master those skills. One way to do that is knowing how and when to reskill and upskill. In today’s ever changing world, many new skills are needed, especially in the digital realm. When your employees have the skills to meet job demands.

The key to skill mastery is the understanding that most people draw meaning from their work. When they are challenged to raise their level of play in an environment that supports growth and development, people flourish. When people flourish the best stay.

What is critical for skill mastery:
  • putting the right person in the job;
  • invest in developing skills – start with their present job then cross train for all the jobs in their process, and;
  • use technology to eliminate all of the tasks that can be automated to multiply what can be accomplished in a work day.

Self Development has so many aspects – personal mastery, challenging belief systems, self esteem, confidence, unconscious biases, diversity issues, personality types, learning styles and so much more

What are the 5 areas of personal development?
  • The Five Areas of Development is a holistic approach to learning that strives to break down the silos in education and ensure the development of a learner in all Five areas of Development - Cerebral, Emotional, Physical, Social and Spiritual.

Communication and language development. ...
  • Physical development. ...
  • Personal, social, and emotional development. ...
  • Literacy development. ...
  • Understanding the world. ...

P4.04.3 – Celebrating Accomplishments Stimulates Creativity

Show Objectives
  1. Why is a Sense of Accomplishment Important?
  2. What types of things can help give us a Sense of Accomplishment?
  3. What are some ways to feel more accomplished each day?
How do you celebrate achievements?
Here are some great ways to celebrate your successes, both big and small.
  1. Share the news with friends, family and colleagues.
  2. Reflect on the path you took.
  3. Write down your success and put it where you can see it everyday.
  4. Sleep.
  5. Thank everyone who supported you.

How can we build upon daily accomplishments and create a culture of accomplishment? Celebrate the Human Experience

Celebrating your wins not only feels great physically, but it reinforces the behavior you want to show up when you face a new challenge or opportunity. Conversely, if you fail to celebrate your many accomplishments, you are training your brain that what you are doing isn't all that exciting and important

It is treating others better than they treat us. It is looking for the potential in others and then doing all we can to help them develop it. It is not based on our economic status, influence or talent. It is the highest level of living.

When we are generous, we have an abundance mindset, not a scarcity mindset. In other words, we firmly believe there are more great ideas to be thought of and more fields into which we can sow and reap. We are always looking for opportunities to add value to people or causes that will make a difference. We not only give when there is great need; we continually give because it is a fundamental part of our character. We are committed to helping people believe in and develop themselves so they can improve their quality of life.

P4.05.3 – Decisiveness enables you to do The-Job Right First Time

Today’s show will speak to how as a business owners, we can upskill our people to do the job right the first time

Self esteem, need to be out front, centre of attention, always micro managing, embarrassing and belittling staff. Sabotage, don’t care attitude, less hard working, complaining, insecure.

Trust
Accountability
Respect
Training
Choice
Challenge
Mindset – The best leaders have a strong sense of self worth

Letting go of control – page 147 Raising leaders and empowering them develops a pattern of achievement, excellence and leadership that will be rewarded and recognised.

P4.06.3 – Engagement and empowerment, encourages Cohesive Teamwork
“Inkosi Yinkosi Ngabantu” – Zulu Proverb – A King is only a King because of his people!

EVERY company, business, interaction or service demands teamwork. From suppliers to the internal workings of any company. So where is the fine line and balance drawn between effectiveness as a individual, the focus on climbing the ladder to stand out from the crowd, to collaborative teamwork, cohesion, understanding and supporting team members to succeed?

Fascinating question really! Because the reality is this…you hire individuals for their talent then mould them into adjusting to the diverse teams that also have their own unique characteristics.
Let’s delve into the importance of using Empowerment and Engagement to encourage cohesive teamwork.

5 Dysfunctions of a team
  1. Inattention to Results
  2. Avoidance of Accountability
  3. Lack of Commitment
  4. Fear of Conflict
  5. Absence of Trust

P4.07.3 – Quality Customers + Quality Mindset = Quality Retention

The Quality of your thinking and your mindset is directly related to your ability to influence, retain and improve the retention of quality customers.

How do you do that? Mindpower, Affirming what you deserve and building an Abundance Mentality.

Many people miss the point of the Power of their own thoughts and what they manifest based on their upbringing, programming and beliefs.

Our lives are tempered by the influences we surrounded by with family, friends, religious beliefs, nuances, circumstances and lifes experiences. So it makes sense that if we to ever move ahead in life, that we need to challenge our own thinking to the point where we truly believe that we deserve to succeed.

P4.08.3 – Reward, Recognition and Responsibility builds Influence

As Business owners and Entrepreneurs, there is a vital ingredient that we sometimes overlook in the pursuit of success in the business world.

The wellbeing of our own personal lives and that of the people we depend on to make our businesses run like a well-oiled machine.
I pondered on this concept of Servant Leadership and realise where we can safely adjust the imbalances in our daily lives to make sure that have consistency, focus, intentional decision making and thoughtfulness in our goal setting.

What You Need to Do
Know the difference between serving others to the point of being taken advantage of and being of service where you add value to every person you interact with….the key to all of this? BOUNDARIES!

My belief is this: “Never come down to someone else’s level by bringing them up to yours. However, if you are not evolving or developing, what are you bringing them up to?” – Arthie Moore
  • Lift the lid on potential through engagement.
  • Set clear boundaries about what you are willing to accept.
  • Demand clarity in conversations so that you understand what skills or tools are needed by your people. Then make sure you include yourself too, to stay abreast of the development of your people.
  • Listen with compassion and caring.
  • Let vulnerability and empathy temper your words, yet Respect guide your responses.
  • To understand the talents and gifts of the people you are surrounded with, you will need to let go of being controlling because that gives you a different type of control.

P4.09.3 – Rewards of Servant Leadership. Lifting the lid on Potential.

  • Be clear and consistent.
  • Become an Encourager.
  • Delve into the personal lives (within reason) of your teams, to better understand what THEIR hopes, fears, wants and dreams are.
  • Know your people, to know yourself, to know your business and the direction you are heading on.

If we used a GPS as an analogy, understand that there are many components that enable it to set the route for your destination. However, you have the option of the quickest route or most direct. You can choose if you want back roads or main freeways. You can choose the view of the directions to big picture or detailed. You can even choose the type of voice you want.

The whole point is this. When you set the destination, there will be obstacles that you did not foresee, and yet, with your pre-settings already punched in, the GPS will automatically recalculate to give you the best, safest route.

With any team, upskilling them and serving their needs and stretching their potential, gives them the ability to be proactive, decisive and consistent according to the tools you gave them, clarity in direction based on your vision and a sense of purpose to pursue completion successfully in an project, venture or daily tasks.
Lifting the lid on the potential of your people is a direct reflection on your ability to lead….whilst serving your own people.

P4.10.3 – Fair Compensation as in imperative.
I believe that in order to change the dynamics within any industry right now, we need to address the first human need that is prevalent in the minds of any employee, business transaction, joint venture and relationship – Money!

So how do we truly, meaningfully adjust this? Who is responsible and how do they bring in the funds needed for these compensation needs of the masses? Simple…adjust your business strategy!

Key Issues - Owner Perspective
  1. Develop pay bands - based on the local market what is the minimum, average, and maximum paid for the position,
  2. Evaluate where in the bad is each employee,
  3. develop  plan to bring everybody to comparative levels - slightly below average,
  4. Determine how much of each salary/wage you want to make variable,
  5. develop a pay4performance plan

What You Need to Know - The What
When we address this area, we need to delve into the depths of business understanding, innovation, inclusive leadership and the need for Quality Leadership.

What You Need to Do - The How
  1. Implementation of Skills development, soft skills, Solution focussed strategy plans, African Principles of leadership and so much more.
  2. Challenging mindsets and creating a fair exchange where compensation meets upgraded, upskilled, self motivated individuals who earned the right to receive the compensation they deserve.
  3. Accountability, responsibility and Performance related plans.
  4. Create systems that truly guage performance based on output, innovative thinking and results.
  5. Gender neutral payment structures that talk into skills, experience, qualifications and expectations met.

P4.11.3 – The Art of Delegation in developing Competence.

5 Dysfunctions of a Team Patrick Lencioni

Effective delegation changes our leadership perspective from managing tasks and processes to coaching employees to succeed in their roles. ... It engages them as responsible partners in tasks, projects and objectives rather than simply as pieces of human machinery in the business.

Reflection on our ability to Lead effectively

Key Issues - Owner Perspective

1.   Delegation with current position - allow for autonomy,
2.   Delegate next level tasks as a reward and training for promotion,
3.   Shift jobs - make them boss for a day

P4.12.3 – The Compassionate Leader uses Ethical & Responsible guidance

The Value of Compassion ©
“At the level of Respect, ALL people are Equal!” – Arthie Moore
Compassion is the key ingredient needed to help others grow. It is an intrinsic part of our ability to truly connect at a deep level with every person we interact with.

A Compassionate person comprehends, connects, understands and accepts people for who they are and where they are at in their journey. They then entice them to grow to the next levels of excellence in their personal and business lives. They do this by adding Value in every way to guide, support and share expertise and experiences to help that person in a meaningful way.

As a compassionate person, you choose to see the good in everyone. By practicing compassion, you are able to use your intuition to support others in achieving their goals, dreams and purpose in life.
Compassionate people live a life of intention. They intentionally seek to use integrity in every aspect of their own lives in order to stay true and respectful to themselves first. This allows them to inspire and impact others by standing up for their values, principles and beliefs.

Caring for people without judgement is sometimes a difficult thing to do. When we look at the way we are wired as human beings, we have been ingrained and indoctrinated in many ways. From prejudices, wants, needs, expectations, pain, hurts, traumas, self-pity, lust, anger, sadness to love, joy and a whole plethora of emotions, beliefs and programs that subconsciously guide our conscious behaviours.
Showing compassion as a person, does not mean that you have to accept the way people treat you. It merely means that you do not allow their actions to define how YOU behave towards them in response.

Acceptance is something that every person craves. By showing compassion and caring, we are able to help many to heal from their invisible wounds and grow into the life they truly deserve. And the reality is, that they deserve the BEST!
