During the Preparation stage we are challenged to prove our competence, our courage, our humanity and our fidelity to high ideals. Your automatic mechanism, also known as your subconscious, is absolutely impersonal. It operates as a machine and has no will of its own. It always tries to react appropriately to your current beliefs and perception of your environment. It always strives to give you appropriate feelings and to accomplish the goals you consciously determine. But, it only works on the data you feed it in the form of ideas, beliefs, interpretations and opinions. It is your conscious, rational mind that is the control button of your subconscious automatic machine. It was by conscious thought, perhaps irrational and unrealistic, that the subconscious machine developed negative and inappropriate reaction patterns. It is by conscious, rational thought that the automatic reaction patterns can be changed. |
