Episode 10: EE FAQ Segment 1: FAQ Section 1
Think of each relationship, either singular or collective, as a bank account. Eg: You have an employee whose name you barely know, you never talk to, you treat the same way as you treat everyone else who works for you. You have a big project and ask that employee to stay late to finish it, even though they won’t get paid any extra because they are on salary. How do you think that employee would react? Now, imagine this same scenario, except you’ve taken the time to get to know this employee. You took her out for coffee after she was hired, you meet with her a couple of times a month to see how things are going, you know her name, her kids’ names, and that she likes Starbucks gift cards as a thank you for a job well done. Now what happens when you ask her to stay late?

Big thing: don’t quit with EE after phase 2! Continue to learn about your customers, talk to them, see how you can help them use your product service, be a resource… Segment 4: FAQ Section 3: EE in Relationships
Recurring vs random Recurring: show up for the groups (physically and mentally), give value by speaking, providing leads and tips to others, talking up others in the group, not dominating the group Random: choose one or two people you want to build a relationship with and quickly earn the right to ask them for another meeting Singular vs collective Collective: give value to the group as a whole Singular: do one to ones so you can get to know individual members and can then practice The Platinum Rule
Be a Giver (Give and Take by Adam Grant) As a leader, realize a paycheck is NOT giving value (the paycheck and what the employee agrees to do to earn the paycheck is a contract. You need to go above and beyond to give value)
Yes. Significant others—continue to get to know them and learn about them throughout the relationship. We make the mistake of thinking we KNOW the ones closest to us and that we don’t have to work on it any longer. Eg: Todd—things that used to be triggers and I had to tiptoe around, he’s worked on. If I still treat him like that, he gets angry because I’m not acknowledging his growth. Eg of wanting to meet with Patrick and his wife…
