4 Pillars of Drama to avoid in the Workplace

​Nobody likes drama and yet most of us welcome it into our lives in one form or another. Some people thrive on drama. 

The blame game doesn’t matter with drama. It doesn’t matter who is causing, instigating or attracting drama. However it shows up it does not serve us. Drama diffuses our creativity, drains our energy, increases our stress, blurs our focus and prevents us from growing in new and resourceful ways. 

  1. Jumping to Conclusions (The Know-It-All) are the assumptions in judgment based on others. It is about me making an assumption of what you and the world meant to say. We jump to conclusions because we know it all, based on our beliefs leading our thinking to focus on “my way is not one ‘A’ right way, it is the ONLY way.” 
  2. Looking to be Offended (The Woe Is Me) is about victimhood. It is the “woe is me” syndrome where you can justify being wronged or angry. The tendency is self - righteousness and lives in a world of “it’s not fair.”
  3. MSU (Making Stuff Up) (The Storyteller) is about my own self and my own self-judgment. It is the story in our head and is about our limiting beliefs. It starts in our heads and is based on our own stories. 
  4. Not Declaring Noble Intent (The Skeptic) means that if given the opportunity to judge somebody’s words and actions as harmful, threatening or hurtful that is how we choose to see it without giving the person the benefit of the doubt. 

Living with drama is being in a perpetual state of reaction. You won’t find this behavior in purpose driven people. 

Qualities of a Keeper - How to Recognize a Great Employee
  1. Works the business like they own it (buy-in). 
  2. Dedication.
  3. Confidence.
  4. Reliability.
  5. Teamwork.
  6. Independence.
  7. Leadership.
  8. Interpersonal/communication skills.

Qualities of Dead Weight - How to Tell When An Employee Needs to Go
  1. Employee doesn't appreciate you or your offer 
  2. They trade time for money 
  3. Consistently bring one or more pillars of Drama to work

Making the Tough Decisions - How Do You Have the Tough Conversations
  1. Get buy in.
  2. How and when to have the the tough conversations. 
  3. DOCUMENT CONVERSATIONS, BEHAVIORS AND ACTIONS WITH SIGNATURES.
