Introduction
Welcome to the show: People – Your greatest asset in business! My name is Teena Ogbugoh and I’m super excited to be your anchor today. IBGR – RESULTS Radio Network. Everything a business owner needs to start, grow or exit a business. Come grow with us. It is the first week of work in the month of August and the last month before we usher in the ember months which signifies the end of the year. I will be talking about principles, processes and practices to help your business thrive. The focus for today in the next one hour is to share Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in business. What SOPs do you need in your business?

My aim is to help you every time I come on air, understand how business processes and practices can help you and your team perform optimally to produce the desired outcome. Stay tuned and let’s help you take your business to the next level. 

Show Objectives
The objective of today’s show is to ensure that the right and appropriate standard operating procedure is employed for processes within the business. Every business has specified standard operating procedures for different processes to ensure compliance.

What You Need to Know

People operate with the mindset that because they can carry out a task, they do not necessarily have to follow the procedure on how to do the task.

Key Issues

  1. The myth that having standard operating procedures in place for processes in the business can be time-wasting and cumbersome and does not impact the productivity output of the business.
  2. Standard operating procedures do not allow for creativity and denies flexibility in operational processes and this may hamper productivity for the business.
  3. Standard operating procedures are a threat that may diminish use of individual skills and knowledge.
  4. That it can be a set of monotonous documents that do not add real value to the company and so it becomes difficult to measure true performance of employees if evaluation is tied to certain standard operating procedures.

What You Need to Do
  1. Have a non-bias standard operating procedure that meets the industry standard of the business
  2. Train employees on the how and why of having a standard operating procedure for processes within the business
  3. Ensure the standard operating procedure is written to align with the policies and procedures of the organization
  4. Organize the SOPs to be clear for every job function with specific details of responsibility.
