Episode D3.006 Share Expectations of Work Standards

20/8/2020

IBGR - RESULTS Radio Network. Everything a business owner needs to start, grow, or exit a business. Come grow with us.

Introduction

Sharing expectations of work standards with staff is an unavoidable function as a leader and business owner. Work standards provide a guide for staff to ensure the work expected is on course and meeting or exceeding expectations. Imagine starting your business without a guide or some sense of direction of requirements or regulatory expectations. What happens when you violate requirements? How would you feel if the laws or rules changed without your awareness? This is how you should think about staff knowing expectations of work standards.

The discussion this week will highlight reasons to share expectations of work standards, what it means to share work standards, and how to ensure you are sharing what employees need to meet the standard. Staff must have an awareness and deep understanding of how to, at a minimum, meet expectations. The information learned in the previous 5 sessions led us to this point. Future sessions will tie information together. Stay focused and save all show notes to gather the complete story of how your business will THRIVE when you include your entire team.

Now, let us TeamUP and watch how your business will THRIVE!

Show Objectives

The objectives this week focuses on the ability of leaders and business owners to share work expectations to staff. How can you THRIVE in sharing expectations? Ensuring awareness, value add, communication, focus, effort, and performance.

Key Issues
  1. Leaders do not provide a list of standards that should be included on the list for staff.
  2. Leaders do not ensure respect is acknowledged as standards.
  3. Employees are not aware of everything expected of them and may lose focus.
  4. Management staff may not hold staff accountable for not working to meet addressed standards.
  5. Managers and supervisors are not holding frequent and effective performance review meetings with staff.
  6. Communication is nonexistent or ineffective.
  7. Measurements are not set to effectively evaluate work standards.

What You Need to Know
  1. Staff must understand and acknowledge work expectations to meet the standard.
  2. When the staff are aware of expectations and required to focus, the feeling of personal value increases and so does work performance.
  3. Effort is required for ALL staff, which includes leadership.
  4. Developing a baseline that is measurable for future performance is crucial.
  5. Communication must be enhanced for clear understanding and effort.
  6. Empowerment must be included for staff to feel value-add.

What You Need to Do
  1. All leadership staff must collaborate with human resources to ensure a complete list of work standards exist and are implemented.
  2. Management staff must be included prior to finalizing the standard.
  3. Management staff must be trained on the work standards and ways to measure.
  4. Ensure communication is clear and effective.
  5. Include all staff for transparency.

TeamUP & THRIVE practices the team concept using the
THRIVE model. The THRIVE model teaches business owners and leaders how to view business with the “heartfelt mindset”, which is deeper than the fixed and growth mindset. To thrive from the heart requires Thought, Heart feeling, Relationships, Intention, Vitality, and Enrichment. Heartfelt mindsets are actively engaged and involved in contribution and focused on internal and external THRIVING.
