My friend and mentor, Dr. John C. Maxwell, states, “leadership is influence, nothing more nothing less”. I want to stress one more aspect. Dr. Maxwell also states that, “everything rises and falls on leadership” and “leadership rises and falls on communication”. We have discussed communication during previous episodes. A leader must know understand his or her dominant leadership, which was discussed in a previous show. Leadership styles vary and the selected style for any given situation can make or break a team and organization. Some of the most used leadership styles are transformational, servant, charismatic, autocratic, and transactional. When leadership fails to communicate in the language of the employees, misunderstanding and frustration may surface.
