Introduction Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less, says Dr. John Maxwell. There are different types of leadership styles, behavior and traits that can be found in a person. In a work environment, the behaviour and style of the leader is often a reflection of the attitude of their employees and followers. How a leader treats his followers speaks volume of the nature of the company and the environment. Leadership can either be transformational or transactional. Transformational leadership speaks of the vision, goals and values of the organization and how the leader motivates his people to have a buy-in. It is futuristic. Transactional leadership on the other hand emphasizes results and rewards are based on performance. Show Objectives The show objective this week is to help business owners understand the need to treat people as individuals when it comes to tasks and performance. In many businesses, we have employees who are rewarded for non-performance or overlooked and not adequately rewarded for their performance. Recognizing employees’ competence, skills, strengths, behaviours, willingness and commitment to perform tasks and rewarding on a case-by-case basis will help sift redundancy and lack of commitment.
