Can you Thrive in Crisis?
Show Objectives Yes you can Thrive in Crisis. As a business owner you will be able to see and spot opportunities as your mind opens up, you may have a different way of looking at adversity. Does Crisis put you down, or does it empower you? The people who work better in crisis note that in a crisis, one gets very focused. You work on the thing at hand, and the rest of the things take a secondary seat. As the urgency becomes so intense your focus also becomes intense, for me it becomes a laser focus to deal with the adversity at hand. For people who take Crisis and the bull by the horn, they are able to actually find the silver lining and work on that. Soon they get a breakthrough. KEY The key is to see the crisis or adversity as a challenge, not a problem. Once you make the shift your mind will start focusing on the solution not the problem and as the owner of the business you need to definitely do this. Until you yourself start to act on it, it does not change. This is not easy, but once you go over the crisis and the adversity you come out so much stronger to face the next challenges. Life and business are always going to throw challenges, it depends upon how you see and deal with them. FACTS More than half of the Fortune 500 companies were founded during a recession or bear stock market. Few of those are GE, General Electric founded in 1892, General Motors in 1908, founded in the aftermath of the Panic of 1907, International Business Machines also known as IBM in 1911, The Hewlett Packard Company was founded during the recession of 1937-38, which occurred during the Great Depression. Burger King in 1953 as Korean war drew to an end, Hyatt Hotels Corporation in 1957, Trader Joe’s in 1958, FexEx in 1971 in the aftermath of the Recession of 1969-70, Microsoft in 1975 in the midst of the energy crisis and the list goes on with Google founded was the dot-com bubble was about to burst but it survived and look at Google today and there are many many more. CREATE YOUR OWN RULES Can I do? I don’t have the resources, I cannot control the economy and you then find the examples to support your limiting beliefs. But do you want to be like everyone else, why not be different. You can create your own rules, choose a different approach, it may or may not work, but you don’t know until you have tried. BUILD A STRONG WHY You have to build your own WHY and a strong one. I believe without a strong Why there is no hope. A strong why is what puts us in the driver's seat and pulls us ahead. In times of crisis and adversity most people who struggle, their why’s become weak. They start to find the way out, you know everyone is struggling, the whole economy is going down and I am a part of that. Face your fears and the death of fear is certain. HOW TO THRIVE IN A CRISIS Vision - You need to establish a strong vision seeing beyond the crisis. Understandably that is difficult as when you are in the picture frame it is difficult to see outside, but if you start to focus on the time beyond the crisis it will help. “This too shall pass.” Think how this crisis would matter in the next 3, 5 or 10 years, would it?
