Sarita Johan - "Build Your Core" IBGR.Network - PROFIT Radio. Everything a business owner needs to start, grow or exit a business. Grow With Us. Introduction Great to have you tune in to Built your Core where we explore and discuss topics around how you build the people part of your business. With only 8 weeks to go it is a great time to review what is next for you and your business. The key to successful individual excellence lies in the combination of skills and mindset. Adding people to our team is important and it is our responsibility to set people up for success. We need to consider a person’s behaviour, their values (what motivates and inspires them) and what their natural talents and skills are but what else do we need? What 2020 has shown us is the importance of nurturing the people in your business. Are we equipped to support our people from an intrinsic point of view, the technical part of the role is critical, equally so is our ability to increase our ability to be empathetic, self-aware and provide a safe space. Do your people have clarity around how to meet the role expectations? This is the topic for our conversation today. Information is the driver for clarity, we can define this in a recorded format, but we also need to consider the unspoken rules within our organisation, the things we see as normal and common sense. How does this apply to your team members now or new members joining the team? Join our community, check out our version of a Chamber of Commerce. Join Up and gain access to our Hosts and access our library of best practices. Wishing you a fabulous business week ahead. Listen>Apply>Engage Show Objectives As we are connecting the dots throughout season 3, in this week’s episode we focus on how we need to continue to build on this clarity and then how to communicate this throughout the organisation. The end game, as we are progressing from stage III to stage IV, is to have our business operate independently by having our team understand the expectation, their contribution and where the business is going. What You Need to Know During a conversation this week with one of my mentors we touched on the future of working arrangement for businesses, and what is required to be successful. We touched on the speed of trust principle, it can be summarized like this: “When there is high trust, we have low cost“. “When there is low trust, we have high cost”. Something to ponder on when we are continuing to build our eco system. Key Issues: 1. Employees expect to have written job/position descriptions to know their duties and responsibilities but it may not be available. 2. Business owners assume that as long as employees are experienced, they may not require responsibilities to be outlined. 3. Absence of formal trainings. 4. Ineffective managers and supervision 5. Lack of communication What You Need to Do 1. Define each role with duties and responsibilities. 2. Write job descriptions and position descriptions with appropriate and necessary information. 3. Have formal training for employees at all levels. 4. Create an environment for regular two-way communication and feedback. 5. Evaluate job roles with job descriptions to assess relevance. 6. Conduct review of information on job roles in line with standard operating procedures.
