Show Objectives
Just like there are many definitions of what coaching is and types of coaching, remote coaching has many different names as well. Some of the more popular names include Internet Coaching, Online Coaching, eCoaching, Distance Coaching, Web Coaching, Digital Coaching, Virtual Coaching, Virtual Reality Coaching, and Tele-Coaching. When you consider adding remote coaching to your toolbox, you are essentially tapping into a whole world of potential coaching clients.

What is Remote Coaching? Remote coaching is an in-person coaching conversation that is conducted over a virtual service (video or phone). One or more people will enjoy a development experience that is facilitated by a qualified coach.

Benefits of Remote coaching for Clients
  1. Different time zones and virtual technologies offer more options.
  2. Options for people living in remote communities.
  3. Just-in-time coaching when clients need it.
  4. Allows clients to connect with peers from a wider cross-section of people.
  5. Clients in highly competitive industries can connect with others from the same industry in different parts of the world.

Benefits of Remote coaching for Coaches
There are a few big reasons why people are choosing to choose virtual coaching:
  1. Scaling your work and serving a wider market place.
  2. Creating opportunities for daytime sessions.
  3. When coaching groups, bringing together a wider cross section of clients.
  4. The flexibility of being able to work from almost anywhere, any time.
  5. Reducing travel and office costs.

Drawbacks of Remote Coaching
Remote coaching isn’t for everyone. Keep these possible drawbacks when considering incorporating remote coaching into your practice. It’s important to measure these against both your needs and those of your clients.
  1. They “need” to be part of an in-person group
  2. They struggle with or don’t like using technology
  3. They don’t know why they want to improve
  4. They don’t want to or can’t pay for the service

How to incorporate virtual coaching to grow your practice
  1. Identify if your potential client would be a good fit for your coaching style
  2. Asses which technology choice best suits their needs
  3. Consider when to offer 1:1 coaching vs. group coaching
  4. Formalize the Coaching Session
  5. Respect the Process
  6. Put Greater Emphasis on Development Plans
  7. Remain Flexible
  8. Relax and Smile
