Be What You Expect - isn't that common sense? Well yes it is but that is not the problem. Living by the rules you are trying to run the organization with is the challenge. Think of the kids game of 'Simon Says', how many people get tripped up by watching and not listening to the instructions?

Ultimately people listen with their eyes.

INTRODUCTION
Ever wondered what all this stuff about culture is about and how it is created? Today's show will circle around the issue. We are not directly discussing culture but it is the result of what leaders will or will not stand for. The organization's Vision / Mission / Values becomes the culture by transforming it into day-to-day behaviors.

OBJECTIVE

1. What is the process of being the model for the behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs we need as an organization?

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• Clarity on Vision / Mission / Values (VMV) - Yours and the Organization's, this means the 'loyalty' being requested is a function of the organization, not the leader;
• Understand The Work Ethic Required - It Starts With You, what balance between work & life, work & play is acceptable;
• All About Demonstration, Not Theory - What Behaviors Do You Want People To Replicate, think this through - what are you committed to do and be held accountable;
• How Much Can You Share - Take It To The Limit - how can people make quality decisions if they don't have the knowledge required;
• It Is About Results And Right Behaviors - No Favorites or Politics, this is a leadership self-discipline expected by all leaders. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

1. Start with reading the cue's - when critical events occur what does it mean?
   1. What events should they pay special attention to, and
   2. How should those events be interpreted and what is the rational.
2. What are the right choices - given the VMV's you want modeled, what does right results and right behaviors look like.
   1. Make everything obvious in the beginning, don't rely on nuance, employ a little acting is helpful.
   2. Brief and debrief in the early stages to reinforce the reasons for your decisions.
3. Allow everybody to hold anybody accountable - especially you.
   1. Create rules for accountability that doesn't place people on the defensive.
4. Be demanding on behavior and reward / punish as appropriate - convert behaviors into habits based on the 'law of the good deal'
   1. If you have behaviors outside of what is acceptable, what makes it the right choice?
5. Expect people to hold themselves accountable.
   1. When people admit quickly to their own mistakes - you know it is working.
