Everyone Gets a Call To Be The Hero In Their Own Story
Stories about heroes resonate with everyone. They link our longing, pain and passion with those who have come before in a way that allows us to learn about the essence of what it means to be human. Every journey is unique and every hero forges a new path. That said, there are patterns to the hero’s journey that make it easier to travel when we get some knowledge from those who have gone before. We will invite you to embark on your own hero’s journey as we explore the key components.   

E1 Embarking on Your Hero’s Journey |IBGR | Donna Kunde & Londina Cruz 

1. “A hero is someone who,in spite of weakness, doubt or not always knowing the answers,goes ahead and overcomes anyway”. —-Christoper Reeve
   
2. A great model for living life to the fullest is found in stories about heroism. The heroic quest is about saying yes to yourself and your purpose. When we do this, we feel more alive and are more effective in the world. 
   
3. The hero’s journey is about finding the treasure of your true self and then returning to give your gift to help transform others and in that process we also end up transforming our own lives. 
   
4. The complete Journey consists of three stages: Preparation, Journey, and Return. There are dangers and pitfalls as well as rewards along the way.

E2 Hero’s Journey Defined |IBGR | Donna Kunde & Londina Cruz 

1. “We must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey—- Kenji Miyaz
   
2.  Heroism is about having the courage to act on a vision and take steps out of our comfort zone to begin a new journey.
   
3. Along the way we will slay dragons, rescue victims in distress and find and bring back treasures. At the end of the journey is a happy ending waiting for us to share with others. 
   
4. Spoiler Alert! The happy ending is usually short-lived. As soon as we return from one journey, we enter a new phase in our lives and immediately start the next journey. The Hero’s journey is not linear, it’s spiral!

E3 Hero’s Journey Requirements |IBGR | Donna Kunde & Londina Cruz 

1. “The hero’s journey is inside of you; tear off the veils and open the mystery of yourself.”----- Joseph Campbell
   
2. Starting the journey requires you to leave behind the illusion of your insignificance. 
   
3. It requires that we leave behind a shrunken sense of possibilities and choose to live a big life. We can live big lives only if we are willing to become big ourselves and in the process give up the illusion of powerlessness and take responsibility for our lives. 
   
4. Initially we may start the journey with a desire to achieve some image of perfection. Ultimately we need to let go of whatever predetermined ideal holds us captive and just allow ourselves to take our own unique journeys. This is not a self improvement project. It is a way of finding and honoring what is really true about you. Everyone who takes a journey is already a hero!

E4 Recognizing Guides Along Your Hero’s Journey |IBGR | Donna Kunde & Londina Cruz

2. Archetypes are our inner guides and come into our lives to bring a task, a lesson and ultimately a gift. 
   
3. Although we are heroes at every stage of the journey, how we define and experience heroism is affected by which guide of the 12 archetypes is most active in our lives, culturally and individually. Each of the 12 archetypes is both a guide on the journey and a stage within it. 
   
4. When one or more archetypes are not active in our lives we skip steps. For example, if we have no Warrior, we will fail to develop a plan for dealing with problems. If we have no Sage, we may neglect to gain the lesson from the situation. Or we might express the archetypes in their shadow form where instead of making a plan, we blame others. Instead of learning the lesson of the situation, we judge ourselves or others.
