Return Stage of the Hero's Journey - Becoming Free
The journey is fundamentally about metamorphosis. In the Return Stage, we realize we are the Rulers of our kingdoms. At first we may be disappointed at the state of this realm. But as we act on our new wisdom and are more fully true to our deeper sense of identity, the wasteland begins to bloom. This final set of attainments - taking total responsibility for our lives, transforming and healing ourselves and others, nonattachment and a commitment to truth, and a capacity for joy and spontaneity - is itself the reward for the journey.

S10 E37 The Ruler Deep Dive |IBGR | Donna Kunde & Londina Cruz
  1. “We do not remember days, we remember moments.” – Cesare Pavese
  2. The hero’s journey is often seen as preparation for leadership. In modern life, we become the Ruler by taking complete responsibility for our own lives – not only for our inner reality, but also for the way our outer world mirrors our reality.
  3. When we have become too comfortable and stop growing, our world feels like a wasteland. We must allow new life and the budding new hero within us to take a new journey.
  4. The Ruler creates a peaceful and harmonious world by becoming peaceful and harmonious inside.
  5. There are five levels of the Ruler:
    1. Shadow - Controlling, rigid, tyrannical and manipulative behaviors; the ogre tyrant
    2. Call - Lack of resources, harmony, support, or order in our life
    3. Spiral One - Taking responsibility for the state of your life; seeking healing wounds or areas of powerlessness that are reflected in scarcity in your outer life; concerned primarily with your own life or your own family
    4. Spiral Two - Developing skills and creating structures for manifesting your own dreams in the real world as it is; concerned with the good of whatever group or community you belong to
    5. Spiral Three - Fully utilizing all resources – internal as well as external; concerned with the good of society or the planet
  6. Imagine that you are literally the King or Queen of your realm (your life). Let yourself imagine that you can change virtually anything you want, since you are totally in charge. There is, of course, a political process to consider; you may need to convince your “subjects” of the wisdom of your dictates, but begin simply by thinking of what you would like to decree. Start with your domain – your home, your private life, the part of your work life that is within your control. Then imagine yourself writing the new laws, or writing a speech explaining the new policies to your “subjects” and negotiating with the Rulers of nearby kingdoms to gain their cooperation.

S10 E38 The Magician Deep Dive  |IBGR | Donna Kunde & Londina Cruz
  1. “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”-- Confucius
  2. You choose and will choose everything that happens to you for your own growth and development. Doing so restores dignity and adventure to life and transforms even the most seemingly negative circumstances into opportunities for growth.
  3. Acting on the belief that we choose our own realities – and that we do so for good, trustworthy reasons – empowers us because it renames our experience in a way that allows us to receive its gift, whatever that gift might be.
  4. There are many books of affirmations that suggest substituting positive phrases for negative ones in our internal and external dialogue. All of them tell us that our words program our unconscious and that our unconscious affects our actions – conscious and unconscious. We can enter “the other world” of our own internal dialogue and by changing that, change our outer life.
  5. There are five levels of the Magician:
    1. Shadow - Evil Sorcerer or wicked witch, synchronistic negative occurrences, calling negativity to oneself, or turning positive in negative occurrences
    2. Call - Physical or emotional illness, or extrasensory or synchronistic experiences
    3. Spiral One - Experiencing healing or choosing to notice extrasensory or synchronistic experiences
    4. Spiral Two - Grounding inspiration by acting on your visions and making them real; making your dreams come true
    5. Spiral Three - Consciously using the knowledge that everything is connected to everything else; developing mastery of the art of changing physical realities by first changing mental, emotional and spiritual ones
  6.  Be aware of someone with whom you have difficulty. In your daydreams, contact your higher or deeper, wiser Self. Then in your imagination, talk to that person’s higher or deeper, wiser Self. Work the issue though on that level. When you return to your ordinary level of consciousness, simply observe whether there is any change in your relationship with that other person the next time you meet him or her.
  7. Begin listening to your internal conversation. If you note yourself making a negative comment about yourself, others, or events, stop and turn the statement into a positive one. For example, if you find yourself thinking, “I'll never attract the kind of person I want to love; I'm short, fat, and not bright,’ turn the statement into, “I'm attractive in mind and body, and I attract too many people equally as attractive,”Allow yourself to feel the positive emotions that surround the second statement. If at first you are too skeptical to have good feelings about your positive statement, play around with it until you find a form that does make you feel good. For example, if you are not ready to see yourself as attractive yet, you might say,  “I eat small amounts of healthy food and I study good books, so I am attracting love from people who also care about health and intelligence.“ Notice how changes in your thinking change your life.

S10 E39 The Sage Deep Dive |IBGR | Donna Kunde & Londina Cruz
  1. “It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you    stumble, there lies your treasure.” –  Joseph Campbell
  2. Both Rulers and Magicians want to control reality and to change negative circumstances into positive ones. Sages have little or no need to control or change the world; they just want to understand it. The Sage’s path is the journey to find out the truth-about ourselves, our world, and the universe.
  3. In day-to-day matters, the most essential question for the sage is “What is the truth here?”
  4. The highest achievements of the Sage is freedom from attachment and illusion. To the degree that we are attached or even addicted to certain things, our judgment will be distorted because we are not free to see clearly.
  5. To the degree that we are attached to approval of others, to accomplishment, and any results at all, we are not free, and in the normal course of life, we will suffer. The only sure path to real freedom and joy is to turn over control of one's life to a more Transcendent and wiser power than oneself.
  6. There are five levels of the Sage:
    1. Shadow - Cut off, unfeeling, “ivory tower,” “above it all;” critical, judging, or pompous behaviors and attitudes
    2. Call - Confusion, doubt, deep desire to find the truth
    3. Spiral One - Search for “the Truth” and for objectivity
    4. Spiral Two - Skepticism, awareness of multiplicity and complexity of truth, all truth seen as relative; acceptance of subjectivity as part of the human condition
    5. Spiral Three - Experience of ultimate truth or truths; wisdom
  7. Imagine you are with a younger person who thinks you are very wise. Let yourself imagine how you meet this person and what makes this person look up to you. In fantasy, let yourself experience spending time with this person as you tell or show them what they want and need to know about life. Be aware of how it feels to chew you to take on the role of the wiser, older guide.

S10 E40 The Fool Deep Dive  |IBGR | Donna Kunde & Londina Cruz
  1. “Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” –George Bernard Shaw
  2. The inner Fool is never far away from us. It is the archetype that precedes even the innocent. The Fool is the aspect of the inner child that knows how to play, to be sensual and in the body. It is at the root of our basic sense of Vitality and aliveness, which expresses itself as a primitive, childlike, spontaneous, playful creativity.
  3. The Fool is the beginning and the end of the journey.
  4. When the fool is active in our lives, we are motivated by curiosity and want to explore and experiment with life. It is a time when we have little or no interest in being responsible, at least not for others, for we want most of all to be free. This means free from duties, responsibilities, deadlines, even relationships that might demand things from us that are not fun, and from possessions.
  5. The contribution of the Fool to our lives is resilience, the capacity to get up and try again.
  6. There are five levels of the Creator:
    • Shadow - Self- indulgence, sloth, gluttony, irresponsibility
    • Call - Boredom, ennui, desire to have more enjoyment in life
    • Spiral One - Life is a game to be played for the fun of it (Fool)
    • Spiral Two - Cleverness used to trick others, to get out of trouble, to find ways around obstacles, to tell the truth without impunity (Trickster)
    • Spiral Three - Life is experienced fully in the moment; life is celebrated for its own sake and lived in the moment, one day at a time (Wise Fool or Jester)
  7. Meditate on the funniest and most enjoyable moments in your life that's far. Think of one fun or funny moment after another. Imagine yourself telling humorous stories about these events. Continue at least until you find yourself laughing out loud.
