Climbing the ladder of character is something that must be done intentionally. It doesn’t just happen. Mastering each rung of the character ladder empowers you to continue to climb higher and continually improve. Today we are going to explore the Law of the Ladder and the rungs you might want to add to your character ladder.

Objectives - The WHY
To be a success, we must think like a success. Doug Firebaugh said, “Achievement to most people is something you do … to the high achiever, it is something you are.” This is important because character growth determines the height of your personal growth, and without personal growth, you can never reach your full potential. That is the Law of the Ladder.

What You Need to Know - The WHAT

The stronger your character, the greater your growth potential. If we desire to grow and reach our potential, we must pay more attention to our character than to our success. Personal growth means increasing our capacity as human beings. 

1. Character Matters - Focus on being better on the inside than on the outside
   
   1. The inside influences the outside
      
   2. Inside victories come before outside ones
      
   3. Our inside development is totally within our control
      
2. People Matter - Follow the golden rule
   
   1. Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then take the initiative to do it for them.
      
   2. We can either be a plus or a minus in the lives of others. Choose to be a plus.
      
3. Passion Matters - Teach only what you believe
   
   1. People who lack principles and passion become vanilla people. 
      
   2. Do what you love and believe in.
      
4. Perspective Matters - Value humility above all virtues
   
   1. Remember the big picture
      
   2. Be teachable
      
   3. Be willing to serve others
      
   4. Be grateful
      
5. Faithfulness Matters
   
   1. Do the right thing now - even if you don’t feel like it
      
   2. Take control of your behavior and your emotions will fall into place
      

What You Need to Do​​ - The HOW

1. Assess where you have put most of your focus up until this point. If your assessment reveals more of an outside focus than an inward one, determine how to shift your focus by adding time, money and attention to the things that will make you grow even if they do not show. 
   
2. Plan to spend time in the near future regularly serving others. Putting aside your own agenda and putting others first will help you  develop humility, character and others-mindedness. 
   
3. Self reflection - what are you doing every day to develop the habit of character and growth? You can change who you are and your overall potential by becoming a better person.
