Episode 5
How Successful Entrepreneurs Stay in Control of Their Emotions and Increase Their Resilience
  1. “One mark of resilience is learning to tell which pain deserves our attention.” -- Eric Greitens
  2. Everyone has potential for bad days and emotional challenges. We can choose to accept them or choose to reframe them. Controlling emotions means living life by design instead of by default.
  3. “Motions” are the precursor to “E-motions.” You can do things to influence your emotions. Do something productive to change your thinking towards damaging emotions. 
  4. We always have a choice in how we act or react to life’s unexpected events. The faster we recover from the shock of the emotion, process through it and move towards action, the quicker our recovery will be. The direction we choose to face is always ours to make. 

Episode 6
Add Resilience to Deal With Entrepreneurial Difficulties
  1. Former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens writes in his book Resilience: “Many of life’s annoyances just have to be ignored. That doesn’t mean that we suppress, ignore or deny every pain. Serious pain has to be confronted. But one mark of resilience is learning to tell which pain deserves our attention. Paying attention to every pain, all the time, doesn’t lead to resilience. It usually just leads to whining.”
  2. Emotionally strong business owners don’t waste time feeling sorry for themselves. 
  3. You can’t be successful and complain at the same time. Focusing on troubles and moving towards success really happen together. 
  4. Learn to discern what the problem is and then reframe or prioritize the situation. Does it really need your energy and attention … right now? Or can you let it go or put some emotional space between it. 

Episode 7 
Optimize Business Relationships Using Resiliency
  1. “The weaker person usually controls the relationship.” -- Elmer Towns
  2. Emotionally strong business owners don’t allow others to control their relationships. Being effective does not mean making everyone happy. People Pleasing does not lead to resilience.
  3. Resilient business owners have the ability to adjust to difficult relationships while the less resilient can’t or won’t. Dysfunctional people want others to function on their level. Average people want others to be average. High achievers want others to achieve. 
  4. Resilient business owners honor their relationships while at the same time guarding against letting others control them, especially in difficult relationships. 

Episode 8
How to Use Resilience to Grow You and Your Business
​
  1. The President of Lead from Within says, “It’s human nature to resist change -- particularly when it comes in the form of adversity or challenges. But change is inevitable, and developing the trait of resilience helps us not only survive change, but also to learn, grow and thrive on it. 
  2. Resilience is the capacity to cope with stress and adversity. It comes from believing in yourself and at the same time believing in something bigger than yourself. 
  3. Resilience is not a trait that you are born with. It is something intentionally developed over time. The good news is that resilience involves behaviors, thoughts and actions that can be learned and developed by anyone. 
  4. Emotionally strong and resilient people do not expect immediate results. They understand that genuine success takes time. They also face struggles, obstacles and adversity with energy and fortitude. We can change our direction overnight but we rarely arrive at our destination overnight. Keep your eye on the big picture and don’t quit!
