Let’s discuss a few things that will make you an expert in Coaching Awareness Awareness is the ability to recognize your perspective not just in your experience, but in how others see you as well. It’s about understanding your needs and desires, your habits, and everything that makes you, YOU. How to help your clients be more aware - Slow them down Here are some ways for you to increase your self-awareness: Ask yourself: • What are your strengths? • What are your core values? • What do you really love doing? • What do you tend to avoid? • What do you want to achieve in your life? • What do you want to leave as a legacy? • How do you tend to manage your emotions? - Big emotions like love, anger, sadness, stress, happiness, etc Presence Presence is one's ability to be consciously aware of what is happening at the moment. You are present to your client’s needs and emotions as well as yours. How to be more present in your coaching sessions: • Turn off your phone, laptop, and any other distracting device (ask your client to do the same). • Leave your personal life outside your coaching session. • Make sure you schedule enough time to be fully present in your session. • Start a meditation practice, where you allow yourself to just BE and not DO anything. • When you feel your mind wants to wander, focus on your breathing for a while. Allow the experience to bring you to the present moment. Deep Listening Tips for becoming a better listener • Allow time for silence so your client can digest their insights. • Don’t try to be interesting, be interested in what your client says. • Don’t worry about what to ask next, let the session flow. Don't race the conversation. • Invite your ego out of the equation Rapport Rapport is creating that invisible but important emotional connection between you and the person sitting in front of you.
