Community means something different to everyone and the level of importance that you invest in building community depends on what it means to you, your brand and your business. There is a difference between your audience, your community, customers and your fans (ambassadors). The community that you build will help you find your customers, their needs, and to better design your products and services to meet their specific demands.
Consistent Marketing and Sales do not happen in vacuum but are part of the entire system where you are identifying and engaging your community. You can drive sales through cold calling and cold emailing but if you want to create an organism that will help you grow your reach, then you need to build a community.
One of the most effective marketing strategies is still word of mouth. People are more likely to buy and support products that they can envision a person like themselves buying or using.
