Introduction
Today I am wearing only the E hat - Executive. Since I started on this journey over 41 years ago, the first 2/3's of my career was consulting with the C Suite (CEO, COO, etc.) on building  a sustainable organization that could also achieve rapid growth. Once a business gets to a certain size these two objectives seem to be mutually exclusive. Based on that experience I built a collection of business rules that when combined created high performing, fast growth companies that had long futures. This is my story

Objectives - The WHY

We have been investigating this business model for quite a while as part of the station's expansion. In fact it is how we plan to grow our sales force in 2021 and thought it would be fun to share the information with you.

Also I had the great opportunity to work the founders of Amway when they were expanding into the online world.

Key Issues - Owner Perspective:
  1. What is MLM or multi-level marketing?
  2. Can it work for me or my business?

What You Need to Know - The WHAT​
  • In many business circles the concept of network effect is kool and used to examine the success of google, Facebook, Twitter, etc., however the business model has been with us for a long time - MLM.
  • You can use MLM to start a new business or use this approach to extend your operations such as building a large sales force without hiring.
  • The key is to understand your core roles - building a downline (people reporting to you) and upline (if your are joining another business).
  • You 'get paid' for making good people decisions when balancing 'want to' with 'can do' when recruiting.

What You Need to Do​​ - The HOW
  1. The 4 Keys to Success (SRTC);
    1. Selling - you need build revenue you earn for yourself or the business to understand the context. The most significant and challenging element is dealing with outright no's and objections.
    2. Recruiting - who you select will determine turnover, retention is the ultimate goal.
    3. Training - select people who have the 'want to' and train them, part of your goal of retention. How do they play the 2 requirements of the job - Being an Upline and Managing  their Downline.
    4. Celebrating - make the process of growing and learn fun and of course being successful.
  2. Create a business in a box or buying one in a box. It is the same if your goal was to franchise the business. If you are joining one - how much of the backoffice is down for you?
    1. Building the Backoffice must produce something that can be duplicated time and after time - get the model right and don't deviate until is apparent change required.
    2. Red Flag - (1) the product or service can't sell itself, (2) the major of revenue comes from recruiting, not selling.
