Good morning, you are listening to IBGR.Network, the International Business Growth Radio Network, I am your host, Jan Robberts, Global Influencer, Co-Founder of Ki Leadership Institute and founder of JRs Speakers Club. Do you want to be successful? There are many different, important aspects of being a well-rounded, successful business owner. Today’s show will talk into networking for success. How we need to become more effective so it’s no longer a nightmare.

By the end of our time together today you will...
Hopefully have a better understanding of how to focus and network more effectively in less time with better results. The longer term aim is also to build solid relationships with those you connect with. 

There have always been an abundance of opportunities to attend network sessions, conferences, and a wide variety of other meetings and sessions.

The effectiveness of those leaves a lot to be desired.

We all know that in the modern business environment, networking is important. Yet, how many of us actually know how to network properly? The truth is, hardly any of us do. Most people associate networking with awkward attempts to chat with colleagues at a dinner party or with competitors at conferences. Perhaps as a result of bad experiences, many of us deliberately avoid the whole process of networking and assume that we are no good at it.

But this view of networking is false. There is much more to the process than we think. Understanding this process will give you the skills and information you need to become a more strategic networker.

With a much further reach online these opportunities have not diminished, and virtual conferences can be attended from the comfort of your living room. 

Are these as effective or ineffective as physical get togethers? After all, we can not meet face to face, so it is often a zoom call, webinar, go-to meeting or other electronic get together. 

Most of the time it has little to do with what type of event you attend but far more with you, the person walking into that event….YOU!
  • Know WHY you are there
  • Set your intentions
  • Build relationships
  • Make networking a priority

There are several reasons why networking sessions are ineffective: 
  • Lack of networking know how
  • Lack of communication skills 
  • Lack of importance of the need to network 
  • Lack of relationship building skills 
  • Lack of discipline 
  • Lack of leadership skills 
 
  • Contact Spheres – What are they, why are they important, and how to get the most out of them…
 
  • Building Relationships – A must for Entrepreneurs, it’s not just about a sale.

  • V – Visibility, You have to be visible in the community
  • C – Credibility, They know you and they know what you are good at.
  • P – Profitability, They know you, know what you are good at, and are willing to give you referrals 

“People do business with those they know, like, and trust”

A strategic networker has contacts in many areas and works to develop trusting relationships.
  1. Your Work Net
  2. Your organizational Net
  3. Your Professional Net
  4. Your Life Net

Final thought:
They still haven’t found what the human brain is capable of so why do most of us live with self limiting beliefs? Why do so many of us think we can’t do certain things? Why do so many of us already defeat ourselves before we even start something?
